Parental Assessment

What is an assessment?

An assessment is a way of learning about your parenting skills and ability to safely care for your child. It covers all aspects of parenting, including basic childcare, promoting a child’s social, emotional, intellectual and health development and domestic issues such as money matters, diet and hygiene. The information collected during the assessment will be used to make recommendations about your child’s future.

How do you assess my parenting skills?

During your stay at Rachel House, our highly trained staff will assess your parenting skills through direct observations, group and individual sessions, and daily monitoring, all tailored to your family's unique needs. We use an assessment model called Parent Assess because it is good at showing the needs of your family, and it helps us to write clear reports for your social worker. You will be involved at every step, and we will always make sure you know what is being written about you and your family.

We understand that moving out of your home and into somewhere new can be very daunting, our staff will help you to feel as comfortable as possible and support you where necessary. Always remember, we’re here to help you and our main aim is always to achieve a positive outcome for you and your family.
