FAQs

Families who have experienced living at Hopespring Family Services devised a list of Frequently Asked Questions

  • When you first come to Rachel House, you are more than welcome to bring your belongings. If for any reason this is not possible, we can provide a towel, and basic toiletries for parents.

We know some parents may need support with baby equipment and we can provide all the basics for a baby if required. We only ask that you return items such as sterilisers and Moses basket when you leave the centre.

  • You will have your own bedroom. We will ask you and other residents to not enter each other’s bedroom. We will provide you a key to your bedroom and you will be able to lock your bedroom. We will also provide safe boxes in each bedroom for your valuables.

However, aside from your bedroom, Rachel house is a fully shared living space.

  • We employ a wide range of staff, each having relevant qualifications and experience.

We have a staff notice board displaying staff photos and their role.

  • At Rachel House, CCTV is in use in bedrooms upon request from the local authority, with the flexibility to turn the cameras off when not needed. During your induction, our staff will provide a detailed overview of the CCTV system's operation. Please note that only a manager, at the request of your social worker, can make changes to the settings. In addition to this, there is also CCTV positioned in the back yard and by the front door.

There are no cameras in communal areas. We also have a RING doorbell installed at the front entrance for added security.

  • We encourage friends and family to visit you during your time here, however all visitors must be approved by your Social Worker before they visit the centre.

  • Every day can be different for our residents depending on their needs and circumstances. Each day different daily tasks are assessed, depending upon what is needed, such as general care with feeding, nappy changes, bath time, safety and protection, and emotional warmth.

After each session, you will receive feedback, emphasising your strengths and addressing concerns to help you meet the expected standard and implement necessary changes.

Our assessments are more than just observing you and your child, our friendly and highly trained staff are here to offer advice and support to help develop your skills in areas beyond parenting. We run groups to help you in areas like cooking, self-esteem and play sessions with your child.

  • Of course, we actively encourage families to visit the Centre prior to moving in. You can arrange this through your Social Worker, or Solicitor.

Alternatively, we can provide a photo gallery for families who live further away and are unable to visit prior to moving in.

  • Our designated smoking area is at the far end of the back garden.

Unfortunately, due to health and safety reasons, smoking in your bedroom and any other areas in the building is not allowed.

  • The usual length of an assessment is 12 weeks; however, everybody is different, and assessments vary depending on what kind of help and support you need.

  • Rachel House is a short walk from the town centre where you'll find shops, support groups, and great transportation options. We recommend that parents get involved in local groups, tap into educational opportunities, and use community resources to help both themselves and their children.
